On a technology still under construction, there's no established best practice to copy β it has to be built as a team, knowing how to decide, reassess, and secure, at the same pace the technology itself evolves.
Case study
Context
I was responsible for the team developing the blockchain infrastructure at the core of the product department I structured, within a Web3 financial services company, at the intersection of decentralized finance (DeFi) and traditional finance (TradFi). The infrastructure supported the financial applications built on top of it β web and mobile. Building financial applications, and therefore the underlying infrastructure, demands particular attention, processes, and security: they touch the real assets of real people.
The real problem
The CEO's product vision had to be translated into a technical roadmap, then into concrete architecture decisions β in a research-and-development context, on a technology itself still under construction, with no established reference or fixed market standard to follow. The pace inherent to a startup demanded constant adaptation and reprioritization. Building financial infrastructure on such a new technology also imposed, in parallel, an absolute imperative: guaranteeing the security of users' assets.
The approach
Establishing an annual and quarterly technical roadmap, translating the CEO's vision into development priorities. Overseeing the implementation of the protocol's building blocks: account and address structure, consensus, interoperability (bridges to Ethereum/EVM and the Polkadot/Substrate ecosystem), liquidity (liquidity pools, order book), credit (collateralized stablecoin lending platform), on-chain governance, external data (oracles and synthetic assets), and NFTs β with an international team (English and Russian as working languages) and a constant security requirement across every building block.
The result
A complete, modular blockchain infrastructure, aligned with the product roadmap, serving as a secure foundation for the financial applications built on top of it. No quantified result at this stage β the work remains R&D in nature.
